Dear AHEC Members,
China Customs has just announced a ban on the import of US logs as a result of “quarantine forest pests such as bark beetles and longhorn beetles in imported logs from the United States”.
You can view the statement (in Chinese) from the General Administration of Customs here.
At the same time, China also announced a ban on soybean imports from three US companies, and tariffs on several other agricultural products including 15% on chicken, corn, wheat, and cotton and 10% on soybeans, pork, aquatic products, beef, fruits, vegetables, and dairy products.
So far, there is no mention of lumber or other hardwood products, only a ban on logs. We will keep you up to date at this situation develops.
Best,
