Dear AHEC Members,
The Ministry of Finance of China issued a statement today which will continue the existing tariff exemption on US hardwood lumber and logs through November 30th, 2022. You can view the statement (in Chinese) here: http://gss.mof.gov.cn/gzdt/zhengcefabu/202204/t20220415_3803082.htm
The announcement specifies that from April 17, 2022 to November 30, 2022, the goods listed in the annex will continue to be exempt from tariffs imposed to counter the US Section 301 measures. The referenced annex includes HS codes for US hardwood lumber and logs; the exact same HS codes that were previously used in the tariff exemptions going all the way back to Feb 2020. The specific codes listed are:
HS Code | English Description |
44039100 | Oak Logs |
44039960 | North American Hardwood Logs |
44079100 | Oak Lumber |
44079400 | Cherry Lumber |
44079500 | Ash Lumber |
44079930 | Other North American Hardwood Lumber |
This statement effectively means no changes to tariffs on US hardwood products, and business will continue as it has for the past two years with no tariffs on US hardwood logs and lumber.
We will continue to update you on the situation and if there are further developments in US-China trade policy.
Best,
TRIPP PRYOR
