Nearly 50 attendees complete compliance training sessions on Lacey Act and other laws and regulations pertinent to the international wood products industry
Alexandria, Virginia, June 24, 2022 – Today, the International Wood Products Association (IWPA) wrapped up a successful Wood Trade Compliance Training series. Nearly 50 attendees, including CEOs, CFOs, buyers, compliance staff, customs specialists, sales staff, overseas producers, and wood trade exporters, gathered from June 20-24 in St. Louis, MO for the in-depth program.
The trainings were held at the headquarters of the National Wood Flooring Association (NWFA), with whom IWPA has partnered on education and training efforts such as this, and were taught by leading compliance professionals that are IWPA members. Course options included two full-day sessions on Wood Trade Compliance Training & Due Diligence Tools and Advanced Wood Trade Compliance, and two half-day sessions on Formaldehyde Regulations for the Wood Trade Professional and Audits for Wood Trade Professional. Topics covered included Lacey Act basics and enforcement history; due care concepts and risk mitigation techniques; Customs and general trade compliance, including declaration requirements; formaldehyde emissions regulations; and audits.
“IWPA’s Wood Trade Compliance Training courses are a critical tool for providing wood trade professionals the education and resources they need to make informed decisions, and build and enhance their compliance programs. We’re so grateful to our partners at NWFA, and to the IWPA members that taught these courses,” said IWPA Executive Director Bradley McKinney. “These sessions arm those buying and selling wood products with the latest information about resources and procedures needed to develop an effective compliance system tailored to their company, which helps on the path towards greater compliance and eliminating illegally-sourced wood products from the supply chain.”
