NHLA to Host Webinar to Help Hardwood Companies Apply for Wood Innovation Grants

Wednesday, September 28 at Noon cst

The Wood Innovation Grant Program aims to expand the use of wood products, strengthen emerging wood markets, and support active management to improve forest health and resilience. This is a fantastic program, and while heavy to the side of softwoods, the hardwoods have not been forgotten. In the past, there have been grants awarded for thermal modification, Hardwood CLT, wooden school furniture from low-value hardwoods, and several biomass projects.

These grants are greatly appreciated, and every project counts, but the hardwood industry is missing out on greater value-added opportunities. To put it simply, the hardwood industry lags behind the softwood industry in developing innovative products and process improvements.

For that reason, NHLA has partnered with the USFS to help guide the hardwood industry in applying for Wood Innovation grants.

The Forest Service has criteria for grants for facilities.

There are stationary WOOD equipment grants that are designed to help companies deal with healthy forests, strong industry, and good jobs. These grants can be up to $5 million and will pay for permits, engineering, installation, and other work if the company buys the equipment and matches the USFS funds by 50%. These grants focus mainly on wood boilers but can also include robotics, bin sorting, electronic grading, and other stationary equipment needs that are necessary to keep you in business while reducing fire or insect risks to your local, federal, or tribal forests.

Learn about all that there is to know in order to apply, and utilize these grants with a webinar presented by Patrick Rappold from the USFS along with Dallin Brooks from NHLA.
