U.S. Supreme Court ruling on tariffs

The U.S. Supreme Court today ruled that President Donald Trump’s sweeping tariffs, which were levied on American trading partners last year, are illegal.

Though the Trump Administration has suggested it will pursue different avenues for collecting tariffs, the 6-3 decision upends the core tenants of its trade policy. It also calls into question whether the Administration will be on the hook for billions of dollars of refunds for companies impacted by tariffs.

HMR/Fastmarkets are looking closely at the impacts of the decision on the American hardwood industry and will further market analysis as details emerge.
